This feature is available since the last release and further extended to a few more editor types in the next release.
Note that the subversion dialog is always available on the tab in the document-well (the bar with the document titles), even for the most customized editors.Martin

Currently this is not possible without extremely hacking that control. Maybe VS2010 will enable extensibility here?

Maybe with VS 2012 ?
Thanks for the hint about the document tab!
This already makes it so much easier since it's no longer required to go the the solution explorer for the subversion commands.
